Minnesota Thanksgiving

For that free Grace bringing us past great risks
& thro’ great griefs surviving to this feast
sober & still, with the children unborn and born,
among brave friends, Lord, we stand again in debt
and find ourselves in the glad position: Gratitude.

We praise our ancestors who delivered us here
within warm walls all safe, aware of music,
likely toward ample & attractive meat
with whatever accompaniment
Kate in her kind ingenuity has seen fit to devise,

and we hope—across the most strange year to come—
continually to do them and You not sufficient honour
but such as we become able to devise
out of decent or joyful conscience & thanksgiving.
Bless then, as Thou wilt, this wilderness board.

A few of the THOUSANDS of things I’m grateful for:

I’m grateful for my health; for a good bed to sleep in, clean clothes, warm shower water and abundant food. I’m grateful for family and friends. I’m grateful for my car that takes me places in air-conditioned comfort. I’m grateful for the selection of music available to me while driving places. I’m grateful for my little digital camera which provides an element of fun and encourages me to see things around me more energetically. I’m grateful for my upbringing, my education and my ability to read and write. I’m grateful for nearly unlimited access to any book published. I’m grateful for my computer and internet access which connects me with people, ideas and the whole of human knowledge. I’m grateful for people who remind me to be grateful, for the sake of sustaining a greater measure happiness.

I’m VERY fortunate.
