Red Crossbill

What I remember most about the Crossbills flocking to the water source at Cabin Lake, was the combined sound of their powerful wing beats as they came and went in unison. It was, for me, –and perhaps oddly–one of the most memorable parts of the trip. I didn’t realize before then how quick and powerful their flight actually was. As I look at the photo below, I think of them as straight up no nonsense tough little birds.
